socks and tights and thigh highs, oh my!
November 14, 2007
We do enough shoe talk on this site to make your head spin, so why not venture away from the shoes for a bit to talk about something – relating to shoes, of course – like hosiery. This season it’s all about the knee-high, over-the-knee, and thigh high socks worn with knee-high boots, spectator pumps, and mary janes! We love this look! It reminds us of our favorite fashion days back in the late 90s when knee-highs ruled the world. I think I’ve said it before, but I’ll say it again, I will always love this look. Every girl needs to have a couple pairs of colorful tights. Afraid of purple, buy grey, not sure about aqua blue, go for a darker hue. Go for what feels comfortable – it’s all relative – you’ll never be able to pull off red plaid tights with thigh-high boots if you’re not feeling it. Dress shorts and cashmere tights can be just as sleek as a slacks (and just as warm, too). Looking for form and function? We get it, winters are cold, and that’s why God created leg warmers. Leg warmers aren’t just for ballerinas anymore. You can wear them with everything, so be creative. Layer them over boots, pumps, or even jeans. And people, please, if you’re going to wear a mini-skirt with knee-high boots and socks, don’t forget to wear your tights too. It is not okay to go bare-thighed in the middle of winter and knee-high socks do not take the place of tights!
