shoe trends for fall 2008
January 11, 2008
The five themes for Fall 2008 shoe trends: 1) The Downtown Diva is what shoedish would call motorcycle babe chic; think over-the-knee boots and other great boot silhouettes and the renewal of the cap-toe from this winter, but in deeper tones. 2) The Gender Bender or Masculine Chic mixes suited menswear with feminine details; cinched waists go best with wide leg pants, which pair best with almond-toed booties and oxfords in berries and coffee colors. 3) Rubik’s Cube or what we like to call Architectural Chic mixes form and color. This style is like interior design intensified for fashion. Geometric shapes and clean lines help to bring footwear to center stage and this is where we will see shoes in the starring role (where they should be). Colored patent will be back, but this time we’ll see some serious 80s colors; skittle hues, like fuchsia, cobalt, and bright yellow will douse platforms and peep-toes once again. 4) Viking Vixen. What were we telling you last week about the gladiator sandal? Also, look to see chunkier heels and harsh embellishments like chain mail, studs, and even nail heads. Think bondage femme fatale. 5) 1920s! Quite possibly the most exciting trend revisited, at least as far as shoedish is concerned. All we need to say here is Mary Jane. Confused? Overwhelmed? Don’t be. Fashion isn’t nearly as intimidating as the trendsetters would have you believe. It just repeats and intensifies. In other words, all those looks you saw blooming in 2007 will take off in 2008.
